April Recap: These past two weeks we have enjoyed getting to know one another and exploring our new classroom. We are learning each aspect of the Montessori curriculum; Practical life, Sensory, Language Arts, Mathematics and Cultural Studies. We also practiced how to use our materials, working on a rug or a table and returning work to the shelf. We learned about the Earth and Oceania. The children enjoyed drawing with markers to make the Earth. They are learning to use fine motor skills through drawing and using pincers to pick up small objects and place them in another.
May Recap: This month we learned about the rainforest and South America. We learned that a rainforest is a tall, dense jungle with many trees and it rains a lot. They are also a very important part of our ecosystem, as they produce 40% of our Earth’s oxygen. They contain more than half of the world’s animal & plant species which includes many mammals, reptiles, fish, birds & insects. We learned that South America is the 4th largest continent out of 7. Also, the Amazon rainforest is in South America. The Amazon covers much of the land. Our Montessori lessons entailed pouring and touching water while we talked about rain. Scooping and pouring dirt while we talked about plant life. And singing many songs related to the rainforest. Our special project we did this month was making a flower pot for our mommies. We made fingerprint ladybugs on the outside of the pots with red paint. We scooped and poured the dirt with a shovel into the pots and took them home to plant flower seeds together. Enrichments for this month included songs about the rainforest and South America. We also used leaves, dirt and flowers to learn about what they are, where they exist and how they grow. This month was full of learning about our environment, nature, animals and each other. We are learning to say and use words as well as some sign language to help us communicate.
June Recap: This month we learned about vehicles, transportation and California. We learned about many types of vehicles and transportation. Many cars and trucks that are different colors and sizes that take people where they need to go on streets. Some carry people that are working like firefighters and fire trucks. How airplanes, helicopters and hot air balloons are transportation in the sky. Boats and ships are transportation on the water. We learned about California. The weather, how it’s sunny a lot, especially in the summer. How the season just changed and it’s no longer Spring but Summer. We talked about the beach, swimming & playing in the sand. Our Montessori lessons entailed exploring with sand & water. Touching, pouring and scooping. We talked about sand crabs, shells, seeing seagulls, dolphins and other animals that live in sand and water. We also used stacking vehicles and counters to work on hand eye coordination and counting. Our special project we did this month was making sand out of sea salt and colored powder. We really enjoyed touching it, moving it around on paper and gluing it to make a beach scene. Enrichments for this month included songs about vehicles and California. We used felt and our felt board to learn about vehicles and transportation. We used magazine photos to learn about California. This month was full of learning about California and the many different types of transportation. We are working on colors, counting, shapes and using our words or signs to communicate.
