May News

We are all super excited that May is finally here, and ready to take on the month! We will be learning about dinosaurs and Africa. The children will be doing activities based on our theme. The children will be reviewing letter sounds and what starts with each letter. Each week the children will be learning something different and do art projects based on what they’ve learned and or what is on our curriculum. 

April Recap

April was an excellent month! The children had lots of fun learning about earth and pacific islands. The children made different art based on the art of the week. The children also learned many new things such as counting and separating pom poms from our math Montessori section, reviewed the letters and what begins with them, we also went over our shapes and colors. The children were very joyful to learn about these things and the month of April. We were very delighted to see the children learn new things. We had so much fun during spirit week. We were very joyful to see the children’s smiley faces throughout all of our fun art and activities that were made. 



The children learned about earth and pacific islands, the children had so much fun learning about the 3 R’s reduce, reuse, and recycle we were able to recycle newspaper and use it for our earth project. We also did fun activities based on the month of April. We read our book of the month called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault. During circle time the children enjoyed this great story about all the letters wanting to climb up the coconut tree. This story is teaching the children the letter A through Z. We Then made artwork based on this great story. 

March Recap

We are all super excited that March is finally here and we’re feeling lucky to take on this great month! This month is going to be filled with lots of smiles and laughter. We will be learning about the Rainforest for our theme of the month! We will be making artwork based on our March theme. The children will study and learn about the different Rainforest animals and will also learn about, and celebrate, Dr. Seuss and his works. Along with all these themes, we will also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and how it’s celebrated in Ireland. 

February Recap

February was a great and successful month! The children had a lot of fun learning about Cultural Awareness and Friendship. They learned about different Cultures and how different each one is, and how they celebrate their Culture. The children also learned how to make friends and how to keep friends. We read our book of the month called Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni during circle time. The children enjoyed this great story about Friendship and how two different colors (blue and yellow) can make one certain color (green). We then did an art project using yellow, blue, and mixing both to create green; the children used their handprints to create it, and they enjoyed it.



The children also made different artwork such as caterpillar heart names, handprint flowers, pictures of them blowing heart kisses, and heart cookie jar names. They learned many lessons, such as Scooping heart shapes into plates from our practical life section, building a pink tower from our sensorial section, as well as the letters S, T, U, V, their sounds, and which words begin with them. The children were excited to learn and practice all these new things. We also had so much fun during our Valentine’s Day party; the children enjoyed passing out their sweet cards to each other and the delicious treats they had together.

January Recap

January was a great and successful month! The children had lots of fun learning about Winter Animals and Hibernation. The children made different artwork including animals such as polar bears, penguins, as well as other pieces of artwork. The children learned many new things such as number puzzles from our section. They also learned the letter sounds for O, P, Q, R and which words begin with these letters. We then went back and reviewed all the letters from A through R. The children were happy to learn about these topics in January. We had such a great start to the new year! Ms. Phoebe and I are very excited to see what this New Year will bring. 

 

As mentioned, the children learned about Winter Animals and Hibernation. They learned about which animals Hibernate and which animals don’t. The children were joyful to learn about these new pieces of information. We were very thrilled to see the children smile when they realized certain Winter Animals Hibernate. We read our book of the month called The Mitten by Jan Brett. During circle time, the children enjoyed this fun story about animals going into a mitten and seeing if they all fit. We then created an art project based on the book and cut out mittens and had the children glue them onto a paper mitten.

December Recap

December was a fantastic and successful month! The children had a lot of fun learning about Seasons and Holidays. They learned about how the seasons change and our temperature rises or drops depending on the weather. We enjoyed hearing the children tell us about their favorite holiday and season. We read our book of the month called The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. During circle time, the children enjoyed this great story about how you can give people things and how you don’t need to expect anything in return. We then made an art project based on the book and made trunks out of handprints. We also added a heart in the middle of the children’s palm. Everyone enjoyed making this tree art. 


The children really enjoyed different artwork such as gingerbread man, finger painted Christmas lights, handprint Christmas trees, and cookie cutter stamps. The children learned many lessons, such as Stringing Beads for practical life, the letters and sounds of I, m, n, and words that begin with these letters. We went back and reviewed the letters from A through N. We had so much fun learning about Hanukkah and what it’s about and where it comes from. The children were very happy to learn about different cultures and the different ways to celebrate the month of December. We were very thrilled to see the children smile when they understood what this amazing month was all about. We had so much fun with our art projects and our holiday performances. We had an amazing time at our holiday party, and the children enjoyed spending time with the parents. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy new year! 

November Recap

In November, the children had a lot of fun learning about harvest and healthy bodies. They enjoyed making different artwork, such as turkey handprints, and spelling their names with the feathers of a turkey. They learned many new things, such as dry pouring from our practical life section; they also learned how to work sorting veggies, the letter sounds i,j, and k, and what begins with them. We then went back and reviewed all the notes from A through k. The children were very happy to learn about these things throughout November. We had so much fun during our Thanksgiving feast and filled our bellies with different foods. We hope everyone had a great Veteran's Day, and thank you to all those who served and are serving our country. We also hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ms. Phoebe and I are very thankful for all of you being so kind. During November, the children learned about harvest and healthy bodies. They knew all about how we can maintain our bodies healthy and what we harvest. We went around and asked the children what kind of veggies or fruit they liked the most. The children also learned about November and what it is all about. We then went around and asked the children what they were thankful for, and it was great hearing all their different answers. We read our book of the month called "Fill a Bucket" by Carol McCloud and Katherine Martin. During circle time, the children enjoyed this kind of story about how you can become a bucket filler. You fill a bucket when you are kind or show someone love. Also, being nice to other people can help you fill your bucket. We then made an art project using stars to serve our special buckets, and the children enjoyed this art project.

October Recap

October was a great and successful month! The children had a lot of fun learning about our 5 senses and feelings. We made several types of artworks based on the art activity for the week, such as handprint Frankenstein, spiders, and Googly eye jars. They had made so much of this artwork. The children learned many new things, such as working with which things go with our 5 senses, working on how to cope with our feelings.


The children had the chance to learn about the 5 senses and feelings. They learned about our 5 senses smell, taste, hear, feel, and sight. The children also learned about feelings and how we can cope with them and use our words so the people around them know what they are feelings. We did activities based on the themes, and the children got to learn about October and what it is about. We went around and asked the children what their favorite activity was this month, and it was great to hear what all the children had to say. We read our book of the month called “Going on a Leaf Hunt” by Steve Metzger. During their circle time the children enjoyed this remarkable story about 3 friends that went on an adventure and went hunting for several types of leaves. This story shows the children what types of leaves we have around certain areas or places, and they recognize what kind of leaf it is. The children then made artwork based on the books

September Recap

September was a wonderful month! The children had a lot of fun learning about the seven continents, all about me, the letter sounds A, B, C, and D, and what begins with them. We then reviewed the letters from A through D. The children were very engaged when learning about these things. We had fun making different artwork based on the week's theme.


The children learned about "All About Me," they learned about themselves, such as the colors they like, the food they are interested in, their favorite book, etc. During circle time, we asked the children what they enjoyed about this month, and it was great to hear their answers. We read our book of the month, The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn; during circle, the children enjoyed this sweet story about a raccoon attending his first day of school and how his mom helped him get through it by kissing his hand and remembering every time he is sad he can put his hand on his cheek and will feel his mommy's kiss. We then did an art project based on the book.
